Rule of Thirds

  1. The Rule of Thirds is simply some construction lines placed over the top of an image to create a guide. This guide is used to create more aesthetically pleasing photos at the “Points of Interest”. The points of interest are where the construction lines meet up.

2. The “Decisive Moment” is where the photographer captures the photo at the perfect moment. If the photo was taken any earlier – it wouldn’t be the same. If the photo was taken any later – it wouldn’t be the same. A prime example of a Decisive Moment photographer is Henri Cartier Bresson (1908 – 2004).

The main focal point in this picture is the top right intersection. The photo is enhanced as the other half  of the photo is more empty, so it looks like she is riding into the picture.

2grid

The main focal point in this picture is the top left intersection. The photo isn’t as enhanced as there is a lot detail in the surrounding areas.

3grid

The main focal point in this picture is the lower horizontal line. The photo is enhanced as the sky has a strong contrast with the grass.

4grid

The main focal point in this picture is the top left intersection. The photo isn’t very advanced as there is a lot more action going on in the rest of the photo.

5grid

The main focal point in this picture is the top left intersection. The photo isn’t very enhanced as there is also an interesting point at the lower right intersection of the image.
